Friday, September 6, 2019 – First Snarky Friday of September

Friday, September 6, 2019 – First Snarky Friday of September

It is week two of college football. This Saturday we have another mixing bowl of cupcake games. Everybody will have their cake and eat it too. Except, it is separation Saturday for four teams. But first.

For the 11:00 am hour, there is no school worth watching even if you attended it. Therefore, run errands, go the grocery story, perhaps take in an outdoors event. Get all of that done before 2:30. Then just turn the channel to ABC and hang on.

At 2:30 we have Clemson University hosting The Fighting Texas Aggies in Death Valley. The ‘bo’ boys of Dabo and Jimbo will duke it out. I am already nervous.

Following that game on ABC we have THE University of Texas at Austin hosting the Tigers from LSU in Darrel K. Royal Memorial Stadium. This is the first matchup of two top ten teams this season. The Horns will have pleasure of hearing the LSU band play Hold That Tiger multiple times.

Since there are few teams to snark about, I must prepare for these two important contests. It is necessary to obtain large quantities of the four basic football food groups – sweet, salty, alcohol and chocolate.

I must ensure Maroon Out shirt is clean, must get dammit doll ready along with a small maroon and white football that plays War Hymn when pressed. I must change to LSU shirt before their kickoff.

Then I must ensure the oxygen tanks are filled in the event of a close game and God forbid OVERTIME!

Until Monday – Hold that Tiger! And BTHO Clemson!

And to my relatives is Louisiana – Feel free to sing “Good bye to Texas University; so long to the orange the white…” and “Saw Varsity’s Horns Off!”

To my TU friends – here is a little YouTube video to start your weekend. GEAUX TIGERS!

I’m pretty impressed with the girls prancing down the street in heels, but I do not understand the bags. Make-up and cosmetics? Maybe comfortable shoes?

Monday, September 2, 2019 – My Monday After College Football Awards

Monday, September 2, 2019 – My Monday After College Football Awards

It is the long awaited first official awards show for 2019. Actually, it is long awaited to the two people who texted me wanting to know why I haven’t posted. So let us begin.

The first award is the Win Big over the Cupcakes award. This goes to almost every team. (Remember, it is only teams I like) Texas A&M, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Baylor, Oklahoma State, THE University of Texas and Oklahoma. I regret to inform these schools that points are not transferable to the next games where each team will need all of the points they can score.

The Infamous Poopy Undies Award goes to the Big 12’s Iowa State for defeating Northern Iowa in three overtimes by 29 to 26. Three overtimes? It’s nothing. Try seven!

The New Oh Crap and Pepto Dismal Award goes to the Tennessee Volunteers in their upset by losing to Georgia State by eight.

Les Miles debuted with a win at Kansas. Yes, Kansas won their opening game. Their season is already better than last year’s. So to Coach Miles and the team, I give the Rock Chalk, Jayhawk Award.

The Ruby Red Slippers Award goes to Jalen Hurst, QB for Oklahoma. Jalen? Did you forget your white socks that everybody else wore? Why were your shoes red and the rest of the team’s white? Nevertheless, the Sooners looked well on their way down the Yellow-brick road toward the trophy.

Due to preexisting social conflicts, I was not able to see Saturday football games. Therefore, I do not have awards this week for uniforms, obnoxious announcers, fans, mascots, referees and any others I make up while viewing. This includes the Exploding Head Coach Award. However, I have from extremely reliable sources that the First Exploding Head Coach Award for 2019 goes to Nick Saban of Alabama. If Coach Saban exploded against Duke I can’t wait to see how many headsets he breaks over the season.

Tonight we have Notre Dame versus Louisville. I hope the stadium lights go out. I have transferred my dislike of these two schools because of women’s basketball to the schools’ football teams. Do I have to go to confession if I do not yell for Notre Dame; or can I make it up by yelling for a Catholic school during basketball season? Loyola or Gonzaga?

Next week’s big winner appears to be Hurricane Dorian. The storm could impact multiple games next week including Clemson and Texas A&M.

While Dorian currently appears to pose minimal impact on Clemson, which is inland in South Carolina, others lie in the storm’s path. Remember them in thoughts and prayers.

Friday, August 30, 2019 – Here Come the Snark!

Friday, August 30, 2019 – Here Come the Snark!

It Snarky Football Friday. It is Cupcake Kickoff for this the first weekend of college football.

Clemson and Texas A&M both handled their cupcakes of Georgia Tech and Texas State last night quite handily. Next week is going to be a fun Dabo and Jimbo contest.

Tonight on FS1 the Cowboys of Oklahoma State play the Beavers of Oregon State. This is not a cupcake game. It is at 9:30 which is the reason nobody cares about west coast teams, especially those that wear ugly brown uniforms. Oregon State uniforms look like they were done with the paint left over from Nike’s glow in the dark yellow that The University of Oregon wears.

Saturday the winner of the dreadful 11:00 time slot on ESPNU we find the Bulldogs of Mississippi State versus Louisiana. Not sure who Louisiana is. It could be a school. It could be the entire state.

The Tide comes rolling over the Duke Blue Devils at 2:30 on ABC.

More Bulldogs at 6:30 on ESPN when Georgia takes on Vanderbilt.

At 7:00 on the one-school programming, Longhorn Network THE University of Texas at Darryl K. Royal Memorial Stadium meet and greet the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. The Horns will win one of their two games played by teams from Louisiana.

Speaking of the other school from Louisiana, we can see the Tigers of LSU and Georgia Southern at 6:30 on the SEC Network.

Sadly, no TV, but the Bears of Baylor host the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin State University. Sorry, Baylor family, my cheers are going where my Daddy’s money and I went. Give ‘Em the AX Jacks because “Oh future bright ‘neath the purple and white…”

Just when you think it’s over for the weekend, The University of Houston premiers their new coach, Dana Holgorsen and The University of Oklahoma premiers their new quarterback and next Heisman winner at 6:30 on ABC.

Snark out. Happy Labor Day. Be safe.

Friday, August 23, 2019 – It’s Snarky Friday Kickoff

Friday, August 23, 2019 – It’s Snarky Friday Kickoff

It is the official kickoff of Snarky Friday – my college football comments before Saturday’s big games. We must begin today as the Texas Aggies open next Thursday against Texas State University – formerly Southwest Texas State University.

Oh the joys of traffic for a week day football game. Classes are just beginning at Texas A&M, Blinn College and the school districts of the Brazos Valley. No one knows where they are going. No one knows how to drive. Tailgating on east and west campuses. RVs and tents and corn hole matches dominating the land surrounding Kyle Field. 30,000 people in town Wednesday for Midnight Yell. But I am excited and already have my maroon out shirt. Every game is a maroon out game.

In other Aggie news. The 12th Man of the Aggie football team is Braden White. He is from Florence Alabama. What do you think about that, Nick? Jimbo trying a little psych out maybe? See you October 12.

I now have access to the ACC Network because I am a loyal customer – aka subscribes to all of the other sports channels. For those only familiar with the LHN, other conferences share and fans have the benefit of seeing many more schools play many more sports.

And now to the meaningless college football ratings. I see that THE University of Texas is rated number 10 in several polls. The Horns should rip through the mediocre Big 12 Conference. We shall see if they can hold on to that ranking. September 7 and October 12 should take care of it. Prepare yourself to hear Tiger Rag and Boomer Sooner ad nausea. The road to the National Championship runs through the SEC, OU and Clemson.

I see where Baylor University and The University of Mississippi will play in Houston in 2020. Well, “Hotty Toddy, God Almighty!” Am I the only one who finds it ironic that Baylor, the largest Baptist school on the planet, with no drinking is playing Ole Miss where alcohol is consumed like water and the drinking age in Mississippi is 10?

And then Old Miss fans do the Toddy Chant.

Are You Ready?

Hell Yeah! Damn Right!

Hotty Toddy, God Almighty,

Who The Hell Are We? Hey!

Flim Flam, Bim Bam

Ole Miss By Damn!

Nothing like cussing in your yell when Ole Miss plays Baylor. Maybe the Rebels will dance too.

I am so ready for it all. Kick-off is only days away. Must get prepared for it. Note to self – pick up Bloody Mary mix and vodka for 11:00 am games, beer for 2:30 games, and wine for 6:00 games. Yes, a case of each. That should hold me through the Aggie-Clemson game.

BTHO Texas State!

Wednesday, July 31, 2019 – “At the End of Regulation…”

Wednesday, July 31, 2019 – “At the End of Regulation…”

I just love a barbershop quartet – especially a smack talking foursome. I think I will hire these guys for Snarky Football Fridays. Consider today official Snarky Football Fridays practice.

This is a video you will want to watch several times to catch it all.  Be sure to watch the quartet’s lapel buttons.

Let’s sing along – four part harmony only!

“…Alabama! Alabama! Since Saban came…”

GIG ‘EM AGGIES! “At the end of regulation …”

Friday, July 19, 2019 – Unofficial Snarky Friday

Friday, July 19, 2019 – Unofficial Snarky Friday

Sometime over this weekend someone will post the number of Saturdays, the actual number of days, and the hours and minutes until college football kickoff. It might be me, but it could any one of you anxiously waiting for our favorite teams to fill the weekend TV screens.

Media Days began on Monday, July 15, and marked the unofficial start of college football season. Therefore, we have the start of Unofficial Snarky Friday. Snarky Friday is where I post my snarky comments regarding college football.

Media Days is the week when representatives from the NCAA Division I football conferences congregated in front of the media. Coaches and young men appear all dressed up, speak and answer questions from various sports media outlets.

This is the time where you hear words and phrases such as:

  • One game at a time
  • Big shoes to fill at that position
  • Big number of starters returning
  • Outstanding freshman
  • Seasoned quarterback
  • Alabama keeps whining (hey I am just paraphrasing ESPN)
  • New head coach and
  • A most difficult schedule.

As you know this blog is about teams I like and teams that play teams I like. Let’s first take a look at the Big 12 – Really Only 10 – Conference. It consists of THE University of Texas and Oklahoma University, seven other schools and Kansas that prays for basketball season to arrive. The Red River Rivalry is going to be fun, fun, fun. Wouldn’t it be ironic if Jalen Hurts won the Heisman?

Now to the – It Just Means More Conference – the SEC. I conducted a comparative analysis of the Texas Aggie Football Schedule and the SEC media days. Here’s what I’m thinking:

Media Day Schools – July 15

Florida – Do Not Care

Missouri – Really Do Not Care

LSU – Happy Thanksgiving! November 30. I shall wear my 7 OT Shirt from last year’s victory.

Media Day Schools – July 16

Mississippi – October 19 – Off to Oxford.

Tennessee – Nope!

Texas A&M – Significantly biased

Georgia – Oh crap! November 23 in Athens and seven days before LSU!

Media Day Schools – Wednesday, July 17

Arkansas – OMG! Winter is coming! September 28 in Arlington with a possibility of Nick Starkle at QB!

I am not sitting next to the damn pig this year.

Alabama – OMG! Winter is coming! October 10. Twelfth Man in the Stands! And in the streets and the whole Brazos Valley.

Mississippi State – OMG! Winter is coming! And so are the cowbells. October 26.

South Carolina – OMG! Winter is coming! But the only chicken we like is the Dixie Chicken.

Media Day Schools – Thursday, July 18

Auburn – September 21 – September 21 – the first of the three A’s. (Auburn, Arkansas and Alabama)

Kentucky – Do Not Care

Vanderbilt – Do Not Care

I am not aware if football schedules are given names that parallel similar physical events. But if so, I would like to name the Texas Aggie football schedule the following:

The 2019 Texas Aggie Football Root Canal, Gynecological/Prostate Exam and Hot Water Enema Schedule

Did I mention the Aggies play Clemson on September 7?

Tuesday, January 8, 2019 – Tiger Tiger Burning Bright

Tuesday, January 8, 2019 – Tiger Tiger Burning Bright

Tiger tiger burning bright

In the forests of the night,

What immortal hand or eye

Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Fearful symmetry? How about the fearful offense or fearful defense of Clemson? Clemson ran through Alabama like you know what through a goose.

Congratulations to the Clemson Tigers for winning the big trophy stick associated with the National Football Championship. It was fun to see Dabo’s excitement as he ran and jumped along the sideline.

Dear Coach Saban, since you seem to recruit kickers who kick like 70 year old women, I would like to apply for the job next year. Really? A fake field goal? Did a Clemson zombie eat part of your brain?

One of the best parts of the game was the Chevy truck commercial with the Donny and Marie Osmond’s “I’m a little bit country; I’m a little bit rock and roll” as the dialog.

And so we now ask the important question. How many days until kickoff? It is actually 228 days until August 31.

To Clemson, the Texas Aggies shall see you on September 7. To Alabama, the Texas Aggies shall see you on October 1.

To the rest of the college teams, we’ll see you on Monday, January 13, 2020 in New Orleans. I hope Jimbo and Aggies are there!

Until then, Elvis has left the football thinkings until next season. Happy Birthday, Elvis! I believe I will go have a peanut butter and nanner sandwich.

Tuesday, January 1, 2019 – Happy Whooping New Year!

Tuesday, January 1, 2019 – Happy Whooping New Year!

Well, Skit. Skat. And how bout that?

How about them Aggies? Chomp. Chomp. What away to start a new year!

Congratulations to The Texas Aggie Football team, Coach Jimbo Fisher and Traveon Williams for a great game. Record setting runs for Traveon.

What a game for Cullen Gillespia? The epitome of The Twelfth Man.

Jimbo’s first year: 9 wins and four losses. Losses to Clemson by two and Alabama was scared. Time ran out against Mississippi State and Auburn. And then there was the LSU game followed by a convincing Gator Bowl victory. Not bad, Jimbo.

The final result? As many Aggie shirts now read:

It’s not the way it used to be!

WHOOP!

But that was last year. Today I have on my LSU Tiger T-shirt. It is the formal one with the mardi gras bead design. GEAUX TIGERS!

I am headed to have the traditional New Year’s black eyed peas and cornbread and New Year’s Day football watching. Speaking of Day, here’s to my friend Kathy who achieved a bucket list item today– Seeing Ohio State play in the Rose Bowl. I’ll watch for you KD.  Please wave to me and Ms. Navasota.

Sunday, December 30, 2018 – The Eve of the Eve

Sunday, December 30, 2018 – The Eve of the Eve

It is the eve of New Year’s Eve; ah bitter chill it was. Wait that is The Eve of St. Agnes by Keats when the bitter chill takes place. That is not until January 20. We also have Alfred Lord Tennyson’s version St. Agnes’ Eve. I guess plagiarism was not as evident back then.

Speaking of saints, chills, and Tennyson, how about that Charge of the Light Brigade by Notre Dame yesterday? Half a yard; half a yard; half a yard onward into the valley of death rode the Irish. Notre Dame could not summon enough saints and begorrah to even make it interesting. At least Oklahoma tried a comeback. I told you that ND does not do well in a bowl with Cotton in its name.

Here’s what I’m thinking. Next football season why don’t Clemson and Alabama play to start the season? That can be their very own personal national football championship. Then in January of 2020 two other teams can have a shot at the big trophy stick. Other fans would like to wear tacky national championship hats too.

Tomorrow, actual New Year’s Eve starts the SEC Bowl Conference. Tomorrow we find Missouri versus Oklahoma State and Unranked North Carolina versus the fighting Texas Aggies.

These games are followed by LSU, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Georgia.

And to get thee to a summary. The entire Pride of the Big 12 Conference rests between Oklahoma State and THE University of Texas. Missouri is peaking and it depends on which Oklahoma State takes the field. But Georgia is really pissed off. Those Dawgs are mad dawgs. Run Bevo!

Tomorrow – The Aggies and UT in the Gator Bowl 1957 history. Yes, the SEC – it just means more!
