Tuesday, December 1, 2015 – If You Are New to Here’s What I’m Thinking

Buddy Glasses

Buddy T. Cat (the T stand for The) Miss you, Buddy.

I am happy to have had FB Friendship requested accepted by another large grouping of friends from the past.

For the past year I have kept a daily blog. When I linked it to Facebook March1, 2015, followers went from 30 to now over 200.

Name: Here’s What I’m Thinking

Goal: Make at least one person smile/laugh or think about something every day.

Content: Whatever I am thinking; lots of Aggie and college football, the public education institution, Texas, family history and some politics thrown in every now and then to piss off people. One never knows what I am thinking. I have followers from Texas Secessionists to California liberals and even a few world-wide readers. I try to write a little something for everyone.

Access: To access the site, Google Drdrd85.me or if you like using Facebook, Friend me at Delia Duffey. FB then connects to HWIT.

Business/Mission Statement: If I know you now or have known you, I WILL write about you. Within a standard deviation either side of a bell shaped curve what I write about you will be positive. Are you willing to chance you are an outlier and get a negative posting?

Posting Frequency: Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday if I feel like it or something happens.

Posting Note: Ninety-percent of what I post is my original work. This includes thoughts and photographs. All FB posts are set as public – that includes your comments. So be careful.

Facebook Photo Albums: I post many photos to Facebook albums because I am pretty certain no one reads anything anymore. However, people seem to like the photos.

Mentions: Some of you know you who are and others have yet to find themselves. There is RL, BFF Troglodyte, Miss Navasota, MHS HC (Magnolia High School Homecoming Queen), The Elf, and Lots of Sweet Potato Queen mentions. You may find yourself reading a DeMarsion (so named for a former and favorite student) entry written for those with MENSA certificates. If you happen to be one of those negative outliers, I post your phone number, email and home addresses with a MapQuest link to your house.

There is a significant amount of content that is autobiographical. At this time I am still writing about growing up in Magnolia, Texas, going to college at Stephen F. Austin State University and teaching in The Woodlands. I have yet to reach TCEA and Emergency Room visits memories. So some of you can relax for the moment.

But never fear – If you have not yet found your name or reference to yourself in Here’s what I’m Thinking, anybody remember that book I started decades ago? I finished it and it is with an editor. If I visited your Education Service Center, there is a distinct probably your name is somewhere in the book. For example: A major character is the Revered Virgil Renfro from North Zulch and his congregation attending the State Board of Texas textbook hearings.

So welcome to Here’s What I’m Thinking. I look forward to your comments on FB or leave a comment on Here are What I’m Thinking. I look forward to your videos of dogs, cats, horses, grandchildren, your vacation photos, recipes and crafts projects and we all love Jesus postings, plus all the other outstanding uses for Facebook.

BugHappy Tuesday.

Monday, November 23, 2015 – The Monday After Saturday College Football Awards

Monday, November 23, 2015 – The Monday After Saturday College Football Awards

We’re number 1! So are we! We’re Number 1! So are we! So who is Number One?

Trivia Question for Monday – Who is most remembered for saying “What a revolting development this is?”

Who will be number one tomorrow when The Selection Committee meets? My psychic abilities say Clemson, Alabama, Iowa and Notre Dame. YUK!

The Creating Chaos Award goes to Baylor who whipped previously unbeaten Oklahoma State to throw the Big 12 Conference into chaos. It also creates an ESPN Game Day in Stillwater, OK next week for a Bedlam Game for the ages between Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma University (OU). This game is big when there is nothing on the line. Go Pokes!

The Baylor Bears meet TCU in what once was and still might be the Showdown of the Big 12. Doesn’t matter. The Big 12 isn’t going to the National Playoffs. Larry Culpepper told me and he invented the playoff system.

Michigan State takes down previously unbeaten Ohio State 17-13. Hard to stay number one.

The What’s the Point Award is shared by Oklahoma for their one point victory over ailing and falling TCU 30-29 and Mississippi State over Arkansas 51-50.

The Alabama Junior Varsity wins over Charleston Southern by 56-6 taking home The Cupcake Award. The Varsity Tide is taking its vitamins in preparation for the Iron Bowl against last place in the SEC West Auburn.

The Big Sarcastic Thank You Award goes to Ole Miss for giving LSU a third defeat in a row. Pissing off LSU before the Texas Aggies arrive in Baton Rouge is most appreciated. Just a little FYI to the Tigers – you don’t let The Texas Aggie Band come to the game – this could easily turn into We’re All Pissed Game.

Mike the Tiger

The Texas Aggies shut out the Vanderbilt Commodores 25-0 and  both teams win the Ugly Uniform Awards. Too difficult to distinguish between teams. Finally Chavis deserves a paycheck.

The We Almost Counted You Out Award goes to Stanford. Whatever you got, whether it is your mascot – the color Cardinal or the strange looking Tree or the crazy band. Whatever you got, get those brilliant minds going and invent something to beat Notre Dame next week.

“What a revolting development this is.” Stan Laurel to Oliver Hardy. I think they are both on The Selection Committee.

A college semester is like a roll of toilet paper. It starts off slow, but goes fast as you near the end of the roll.

It is not necessary to be perfect. Being perfect causes ulcers and hair pulling. Besides being damn good is more than the world can handle.

Learn to lead and to follow. It is good for business and gives you more dance partners.

Thursday, November 5, 2015 – Throw Back Thursday and Where Are They Now?

You still have time to vote for Gayla Groves McClendon as Team Mom of the Year. We have until November 8. Remember – it is for the chillren as the Sweet Potato Queens say.

http://www2.usafootball.com/poll_management/userpoll/6

First a throwback Thursday to a promise I made and then forgot. So shout out to the Demons of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana and to Cousin Darryl, Defensive Coordinator for defeating Nicholl’s State in Thibeaux, Louisiana last Saturday. I think an appropriate statement might be “Revenge is best served cold and unexpected.” Great job Cuz!

And now – From the Where Are They Now Files

From Left to Right – Some Seniors of Magnolia High School – Class of 1967.

Class of 67

Howard Pool – Where in the world are you? I thought you were one of the coolest dudes in school.

Alan Clark – Where in the world are you? So good in math. Didn’t you join the Air Force? I hope you are a general or something by now.

John Paul Warren – Rest in peace, Dear Brother. So glad we had those last years as good friends. It was way better than going to the prom together. What is that you are holding in the photograph?

We know who the next person is. Interesting. He is the one holding the evidence of the paint brush.

Tommy Jacobs – Are you still up around Dallas? When I asked UP, I also mean directionally North or as my step mother used to say – “Where the prominent people live.”

Ted Dean – Where are you? Aren’t you the President of Pinehurst? Seriously, where are you?

Great memories from great guys. I do hope all of you are happy and well.

Thursday, October 29, 2015 – Throw Back Thursday – Lest We Forget

Thursday, October 29, 2015 – Throw Back Thursday – Lest We Forget – The Traveling Vietnam Wall is Coming to College Station – November 12 – 15.

Not all Throw Back Thursdays are pleasant memories. The Vietnam Conflict marks a time in our nation’s history where we as a nation divided on issues. Today we look back and remember the sacrifice and honor those who served and remember them.

The Museum of the American GI – located at 19124 Texas Highway 6 in College Station, will display “Lest We Forget,” a version of the wall scaled down to 80 percent that bears the names of the more than 58,000 Americans who died while serving during the Vietnam War.

November 12 – 15 The Museum of the American GI will host the Traveling Vietnam Wall. The schedule for the days can be found by clicking on the following link.

http://americangimuseum.org/events/lest-we-forget/

I have seen the Vietnam Wall at least four times in Washington D.C. and I have seen the traveling wall at least three times. It is different and memorable each time. I always touch the names of Corporal Ralph M. Smith (see Here’s What I’m Thinking – May 22, 2015.) and Captain  John R. Baldridge, Jr. (see Here’s What I’m Thinking – May 21, 2015.)

As you can see from photograph for Captain Baldridge, note the symbol of the tiny cross beside his name. He is still MIA. He was also a Fighting Texas Aggie.

When one views The Wall one sees the 58,000 names of Americans who died during the Vietnam War. If you visit The Museum you will see the permanent display of the dog tags of those Texans who gave the greatest sacrifice. Imagine that for all 50 states.

Tuesday, October 27, 2015 – Mum’s The Word or Magnolia Mum Memories

Tuesday, October 27, 2015 – Mum’s The Word or Magnolia Mum Memories

I was reading on Yahoo how homecoming mum’s for high schools have become outrageous. Rather than the old fashioned single chrysanthemum with a few streamers in the schools’ colors, mums today look like someone won the Kentucky Derby or they are wearing an entire funeral spray of flowers.

But during my entire four years of high school I never received a mum. So this is for all of the girls who never had one either. I distinctly remember (as I do most everything) sitting in the band in the stands as a senior at Magnolia High School. I do not remember who the Bulldogs played or the score. All I remember is I was the only girl in the band who did not have a mum.

Several years ago I shared this life scarring story with niece#2. She and one of her BFF’s were in Michael’s one day and they purchased me a mum.   Thank you Deann and Sandy.

Here is my mum.

Mum (450x800)

Please know I plan to wear it to my 50th high school reunion.

And the to the rest of you mummies out there – I hope you get a bee in your chrysanthemums.

Thursday, October 15, 2015 – Cooper Goodson? Where Are You? Or The Commandant and the Doctor

Cooper Goodson? Are you out there in Facebook land? If you are I hope you are well and happy. I wanted you to know that during high school at Magnolia High School I had the biggest crush on you. Did you think I sat in the back of the band bus to sit by the bass drum?  Of course I could seldom think of anything to talk about and if there was a conversation it always seemed to end with you saying “Yeah, but girls can’t go to A&M.” If you only knew how that pissed me off.

Therefore I wanted you to know that girls now do go to Texas &M. Here is a photo of two of them. Presenting the first female Commandant of the Corps of Cadets, Alyssa Marie Michalke, and The Doctor, Yours Truly, Class of 1985. Photo by http://reddragonphotos.com/

The Commandant and the Doctor (602x800)

I hope to see you one day and give you a big hug. After I slap you with my Aggie Ring. WHOOP!

Monday, October 5, 2015 – Monday After Saturday College Football Awards

Monday, October 5, 2015 – Monday After Saturday College Football Awards

Our Monday after Saturday College Football Awards are brought to you today by the word “amphigory.” Amphigory is a noun meaning “a meaningless or nonsensical piece of writing, especially one intended as a parody.” A quote – “it is the mother of all miscellanies, aka an amphigory, a medley, a pot-pourri, a gallimaufry, a salmagundi, and omnium-gatherum, a vade mecum, a smorgasbord. Robert McCrum, “God bless you Mr. Schott, The Guardian, December 7, 2002. (Dictionery.com)

Yes, all of those words will be on your assessment exam because they so describe Here’s What I’m Thinking and I have no idea what most of them mean. – Vade mecum?

But if that don’t describe the chaotic weekend of college football… Here is your ado, so further it by reading on.

To the horrible broadcasters of the Texas Aggie/Mississippi State game on the SECN – Brent Mushmouth and Jesse Palmer. What is the deal? Are you somebody’s brother-in-law? Son-in-law? Do you have video of people? I am not certain, Mr. Palmer, but I think you are supposed to give equal time to both teams. Did you not even pick up an A&M media guide? You get the Mute Button Award.

The Most Points Award goes to the Baylor Bears 63- 35 over Texas Tech. I do not think these bears are going into hibernation anytime soon.

However, it is a tie for Ugliest Uniforms between those bleached-out TCU lavender tops and the drab grey, olive and yellow uniforms of Baylor. Who is your uniform rep? Stevie Wonder?

There are several Poo-Poo Undies Awards that go to:

  • Michigan State
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma State

For having close games and scaring the poo out of your fan base. That # 1 Spot is looking very shaky, Buckeyes. Larry Culpepper is watching.

FYI – It was accurratte, that the officials from The Big 12 apologized for the bad calls by the referees. They were not accurrette when they established the line of scrimmage. The Spell Check Award goes to The Big 12. Is that accurratte?

The Pepto-Bismol for Dismal Awards goes the teams that were upset: These are:

  • UCLA – by Arizona State
  • Ole Miss by Florida
  • Notre Dame by Clemson
  • The State of South Carolina by Floods

Speaking of Dismal – The Train wreck Award goes THE University of Texas. I have no other words to say save – it could get worse. OU+CH = OUCH next Saturday. Next week UT players can tweet at half-time and call for Uber to come pick them up and just head on over to the State Fair of Texas.

Auburn wins the Dionne Warwick award for knowing “the way to San Jose.” Now do you know the way back to the SEC?

The Rain and Let’s Build an Ark Awards goes to:

  • Ole Miss vs Florida – the Florida team had the flu all week; the Swamp floods and the Rebels sink.
  • Notre Dame vs Clemson – Death Valley floods and the Irish sink.
  • Georgia vs. Alabama – The Tide was even Rising from the sky.

And to The Crimson Tide of Alabama I am giving them the William T. Sherman Award as they “…sing the jubilee; hoorah, hoorah, the flag that makes us free; while we sang a chorus from Atlanta to the sea – While they were marching Through Georgia.”

And to The Fighting Texas Aggies – I am awarding the Reveille is so much prettier than Bully Award. Not to mention she does not drool and she wears clothes.

The QB of the Game Award goes to Kyle Allen of Texas A&M. The stats on passing leaders:

  1. D. Prescott 20-34 for 210 yards.
  2. K. Allen 25-41 for 322 yards, 2 TDs.

Or as Palmer would say: Prescott was edged out by Allen.

The Aggies have an open date next Saturday and Alabama entertains the Pork and beans from Arkansas.

But then … Coming to Kyle Field on a station near you – Alabama vs Texas A&M – October 17. BTHO Alabama.

Tuesday, September 29, 2015 – The Grand Canyon

The reason the big hole in Arizona is called “grand” is because it is. Enjoy the photographs. These are from 2008. I hope that today Cecil and Becky are enjoying the beauty of the Grand Canyon as much as I did then.

Neither the eyes nor the cameras can comprehend or capture the magnificent  beauty of God’s work of earthly art.

I took all of these photographs; they are all now copyrighted by DRDRD; they are all untouched and my privacy settings on Facebook are always public.
