Friday, September22, 2017 – Snarky Friday – My College Football Preview

It is the First Day of Fall. The temperature is an unpleasant and humid 90 degrees in Texas.

Hope The Fighting Texas Aggie Band looks as good in Jerry World in Dallas as in Kyle Field last week. Photo by KB.

Starting our football day on ESPN at 11:00 AM. in the morning, we have The Hopefully Fighting Texas Aggies versus the Arkansas Razorbacks in the SEC opener for both teams. Sing it Willie Nelson, It’s gonna be a Bloody Mary Morning. Hopefully it will be served with an extra-large side of bacon, sausage and a pork chop. I imagine the frying pan will very hot for both coaches.

Speaking of a coach’s butt sitting in the frying pan, on ABC at 11:00 you will find the Red Raiders from Texas Tech playing the University of Houston Cougars in a match-up of former Big 12 quarterbacks now head coaches. We find in the frying pan Tech Coach, Former Tech QB, Kliff Kingsbury. Opposite will be former QB at THE University of Texas, Major Applewhite. Hook ‘Em! And Go Cougar High! Remember Tech does not play defense.

I am not so certain I would be screaming “Guns Up” in TDECU Stadium in Houston. Sidebar: The official name of the stadium is derived from Texas Dow Employees Credit Union (TDECU), the largest credit union in Houston, which purchased its naming rights in the largest-ever naming rights deal for a college football stadium.

On CBS at a most reasonable hour of 2:30 Alabama travels to Nashville to meet Vanderbilt in their SEC opener. Vandy, you gonna need a lot more than Lionel Richie and The Commodores trying to sing country in Nashville. ROLL TIDE!

Following the Aggies and Hogs we have TCU and Oklahoma State on ESPN @ 2:30. This game has potential. Go Pokes!

The David and Goliath Game is between Baylor and Oklahoma. Nothing sounds worse rising over The Brazos River above McLane Stadium than Boomer Soomer all evening long. Oh, the game is on FS 1 at 5:30 in the event you are interested.

That game could be over by 6:00 when it time to switch to any other game on TV. I will be watching ESPN and the dog fight between Bully and UGA or Mississippi State versus the University of Georgia. Let the Cowbells ring in Athens on Saturday night. Going to need some Big Solid Defense.

Of course I will be accessing all of my screens (I know JH, you have screen envy) as I check on other contests looking for close scores; ugly uniforms/helmets, and exploding coaches.

BTHO Arkansas!

Friday, December 9, 2016 – How Bout Them Applewhites? Or Good Things Come to He that Waits and Sammy Bearkat!!!

What is the mascot of James Madison University? Happy Snarky Friday. Congratulations to Major Applewhite! The University of Houston announced the Offensive Coordinator will now be the Head Coach of the Cougars. Good move, Coogs!

However, tonight on ESPN2 at 6:00 pm the best football team in Texas will play  James Madison University in the quarter finals of the FCS playoffs.

SAM HOUSTON STATE UNIVERSITY!!! GOOOO BEARKATS!

This promises to be an aerial attack with both teams averaging around 50 points per game. Sam Houston is the lone unbeaten team remaining in the FCS and is joined by Western Michigan (13-0) and Alabama (13-0) as the only unblemished teams in all of Division I football.

The mascot of James Madison University is Dukes Dog or just Dukes. I do not know why. You can Google on your own. See you in Frisco, Texas, Kats!

Tuesday, July 26, 2016 – A Good Night for Simon and Garfunkel – Songs of the Year and a DNC Review

Tuesday, July 26, 2016 – A Good Night for Simon and Garfunkel – Songs of the Year and a DNC Review

I woke up this morning still trying to determine what decade I am in. I think it is still 1968.

When Paul Simon stepped on stage last night at the Democratic National Convention, you just knew he was going to sing Bridge Over Troubled Water. Like the shape many believe America to be in, his voice was raspy and maybe not able to hit to high notes so well, but it was still beautiful. When the song is perfect, it is not the voice that sings it, but the words the voice sings.

Then came The Bern and Senator Sanders’ video featuring America. Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike, they’ve all come to look for America. The only thing missing during that concert scene was the Bic lighters.

Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Michelle Obama all spoke at the last night’s convention. Regardless of your candidate, you must admit they were all better speakers that the previous ones from last week who said “Vote for my Daddy.”

Cory Booker – What a Hotty and a Stanford graduate, and played football. Go Cardinal. Now he is the first Black Senator from New Jersey. Wow, those gifted and talented children do come in all colors, shapes and sizes!

Elizabeth Warren – “I come from Oklahoma and went to a commuter college in Texas.” That is definitely a definition of a First Genner – the first of one’s family to attend college. Her undergraduate college would be the University of Houston, once known as Cougar High, once known as home of Phi Slamma Jamma, but still has a beautiful mascot named Shasta. Shasta will look good in The Big 12 Conference.

Anyway, back to Simon and Garfunkel. The year 1968 was a good year for songs. Check out the top 100 songs of 1968. Simon and Garfunkel had two in the top 100. http://www.musicoutfitters.com/topsongs/1968.htm

I know these tunes blasted from my dorm room and up and down the hall of Dorm 18 from other stationary technology music machines on the lovely campus of Stephen F. Austin in 1968. I know you can sing a few words to all them. All of the songs would be appropriate for either campaign.

And Here’s to You Mrs. Robinson, Jesus loves you more than you will know…

If you are really bored, check out the video of the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago. The more things change; the more they stay the same. And We, The People are still here.

Friday, November 27, 2015 – Orange is the New Black Friday and BTHO – LSU

Friday, November 27, 2015 – Orange is the New Black Friday and BTHO – LSU!

Especially if your team is THE University of Texas. So throw me a tortilla and kneel down as if in Victory Formation. Burnt Orange! Raiders 48. Horns 45. Who is up next for THE University? Baylor. Is there a quarterback left between the two of you? Will both of you be playing in the Scott and White Hospital parking lot? Seriously, all get well soon.

But who is up for The Committee to review today and tomorrow?

Kicking off at 11:00 on ABC today we have at #15 The University of Houston and #21 Navy. Ooh. That Major Applewhite guy that is U of H offensive coordinator and quarterback coach “he looking pretty good now, huh tu?”

At 2:30 on ABC it is Nebraska and #4 Iowa in Lincoln. I will so promise to wear a yellow corn cob on my head if Nebraska can upset Iowa.

At 3:00 on FS1 it is always interesting to see what ensemble the Ducks of Oregon (aka The University of Nike) will wear against their arch rival the Beavers of Oregon State.

And coming to you live on ESPN at 6:30 the game we all anticipated, but then…TCU hosts Baylor and without the stars from either team, who knows what will happen. Sic ‘Em Bears.

Bear with Foot

Come Saturday – Let’s start the day with a The Big Chill game at 11:00 am on ABC between Michigan and Ohio State. Go Wolverines.

It is the Iron Bowl @ 2:30 on CBS from Auburn, Alabama – ROLL TIDE! Take no prisoners.

Does anyone know the Stanford Fight Song? It’s probably something like “Oh the square root of pi to the 78th decimal place is what we sing, because we all are geniuses and our mascot is a tree.” Just beat Notre Dame on Fox @ 6:30.

In what promises to be the icing on the cake, and not frosting, but ice, should be the Bedlam Game in Stillwater. ESPN Game Day will be there. So whatever head gear Corsor puts on, the other team will win between OU Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys at 7:00 pm on ABC. Could be a winner take all type of contest. GO POKES!

At 6:30 on the SECN The Fighting Texas Aggies and LSU Tigers coming to you live from Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. Let me take this opportunity to let my dear LSU family and friends know just how excited this Aggie is to be going into Tiger Stadium after you have previously lost three games in a row; your coach has a U-Haul waiting in front of his house, you get to “welcome” your former defensive coordinator and LAST and certainly not LEAST, you are not allowing The Fighting Texas Aggie Band to attend. Well, those are certainly reasons to be concerned.
