Progress Report on the Proposed Re-creation of Neil Sedaka’s Calendar Girls Video

Wednesday, August 8, 2018 – Progress Report on the Proposed Re-creation of Neil Sedaka’s Calendar Girls Video

The Calendar Girls dance card is filling up quite nicely. Until we start official practices continue to sew and hot glue gun your costume and continue to work on your dance moves in the privacy of your home.

January, March, May and October are still available. And we still need a piano player. You know you want to see it again – like a wreck on the highway.

Unfortunately, January is now open. CS fell out of the choir box and her dancing shoes need to be put away for a while. We do hope for a speedy recovery. You must still participate by bringing your great sense of style, fashion ideas and of course your wonderful singing voice because I know some of us have experience in band take overs.

Joan A said she would love to be February but insists on wearing “winter clothes and a big heart.” February in Texas could mean any attire. Attire in Austin could mean anything.

March is still available. Gayla? I think you might have had a pants suit like March wears. If Gayla doesn’t respond, Karen K, March is yours.

April – Ms. Navasota is diligently sewing her Playboy Bunny outfit. I am ready to help if her sewing machine breaks.

May – I can’t believe the month of May is still available. Doesn’t anyone want to look like Joann Woodward in Three Faces of Eve wearing a 1950’s frock made from Butternick Pattern # 4589? The black and white stripe fabric design is a must. I missed the giant white bow on her dress in the video.

June –Congratulations Suzi. The month of June is yours since Knotts is still scared of you. K. Knotts did volunteer her talents from her drill team experience – The LongAgo LongViewettes to help us get a leg up. (Groan here). She’ll help us get our pictures in the Longview Society Edition.

July – Thank you Lea for being July. We trust you know how to handle sparklers. And remember as The Voice of Experience says – Don’t dance naked in the back yard with sparklers while drunk on New Year’s Eve.

August – I get to be August for the following reasons:

  • I can still point so there less downward gravitational pull (thank you trainers KQ and KB and 20 pound barbells);
  • Thankfully, both pointers are still intact; and last, but not least;
  • I have more experience wearing martyr boards with tassels and can do the tassel toss automatically.

September – Karen S gets September. You will look good in yellow. I hope there are not too many candles. Lea will be sparkling with fireworks so we must be careful. You do realize you have to dance on the piano, do a high kick and have the piano player look up your skirt?

October – “like Romeo and Juliet on Halloween” but in a really bad outfit. Who wants to be the Italian opera clown?

November – Martha, My Dear. You missed your chance. Kay took November. She gets to wear the 1920’s men’s bathing suit pattern.

December – BJ, December is still yours and you are correct. Neil seems to be a bit calendar challenged too. The winter months do seem to have more bikini outfits. With the exception of the Halloween clown, all of the “dancers” seem to show a lot of skin – especially for 1966.

Please know that CS was in only if she could wear the colors of the BCS National Championship. Since she is on the injured reserve and requested the BCS School’s colors, you can have January. CS would not look good in Crimson Tide colors and would never consider wearing any colors save purple and gold.

Friday, July 20, 2018 – Snarky Football Friday – Almost

Friday, July 20, 2018 – Snarky Football Friday – Almost

It is so hot! How hot is it? It is so hot that my hot flashes seem to cool me off!

Every Natural Born Citizen of Texas knows that when God kicked the Devil out of Heaven, He gave him a choice of locations – Texas or Hell. The Devil took Hell because it is cooler than Texas in the summer.

I heard from a most reliable source that it was 108 degrees in Dallas yesterday with possibilities of 112 for the weekend. Be patient my dear Dallas friends. A couple more hurricanes, a few icebergs’ melts and you can cool off at the Beaches of Waco.

Almost every Friday is designated as Snarky Friday. This reminded me that it time to once again review a few of the thoughts behind Here’s What I’m Thinking.

Number ONE: If I know you now or have known you the past, I WILL write about you at some point. You must hope I give you a nickname and write delightful, wonderful memories about you. Otherwise, I might give out the coordinates of your residence and tell FB and social media you are serving free beer on Saturdays.

There are a few exceptions. I will never write anything negative about Ms. Navasota or SFA Roomie and a few selected sorority sisters. Mostly because there is nothing negative I know about these dear friends and also because I’m in the photographs too.

I like college football. I like to write about teams that I like and teams that play teams that I like. This includes the entire SEC (It just means more!); the entire Big 12 Conference, which is still only 10 schools. What about renaming it the Non12 Big School Conference?

I will NOT watch any team play on the blue football field of Boise State. I don’t care if you if you were the first and only for 20 years to have a non-green football field. It ain’t right. It just ain’t right. Besides, it makes me throw up. Eastern Washington has a red football field. That ain’t right either. No exceptions.

I do not like schools that have mascots that could eat Reveille – The First Lady of Aggieland. This includes any school located in Florida. Again, there are exceptions. GEAUX TIGERS! EXCEPT on Thanksgiving.

Of course I write about the Fighting Texas Aggies. Toward the end of her earth-life I told my sister, Dale, that I was not going to join her in Heaven until the Aggies won the National Football Championship. She replied “You cannot live forever!” I was also reminded I must ensure my windows are closed on Saturday afternoons so the neighbors’ grandchildren will not hear me scream multi-syllabic adjectives about one’s parents – especially one’s mother. Or as Dale said “will not hear me screaming cuss words.”

Snarky Friday will preview the football games of my interest. Prepare to hear what I’m thinking about the games, players, the coaches, the referees, the announcers, the uniforms, the signs on Game Day, tailgating and more.

Let us not forget the mascots of the colleges and universities. Do we all remember from last year – the meaning of the adjective regarding anthropomorphic as it relates to mascots?

The first games of the season will kick off on Saturday, August 25 with more games on Thursday, August 30 and continuing through Labor Day Weekend.

The shine to Saint Football. Since I do not like real candles, I light lights on Saturday and pretend it’s church.

The Aggies kickoff on Thursday August 30 in College Station against Northwestern. The smaller Northwestern in Louisiana. Not the big one in Illinois. Nevertheless, it is going to be hotter than the hinges of Hell in Kyle Field.

Happy Weekend.

Monday, July 16, 2017 – It Begins! SEC Media Day And Gig ‘Em!

Monday, July 16, 2017 – It Begins! SEC Media Day And Gig ‘Em!

In honor of the first of four days of SEC football coverage and what I consider the official start of college football, I have rewritten one song and selected two other songs to commemorate the kickoff.

Here is the first one. I know all my sorority sisters know the tune. This is an Aggie version.

Today while the maroon and white blossoms still cling to the vine

I’ll watch the SEC Media and drink real good wine.

A million tomorrows will all pass away…

Ere I forget what all Jimbo said today.

For I’m a Former Student and also a scholar

You know who I am by the clothes that I wear.

I’ll feast at a tailgate and record ESPN

Who cares about Corsier’s head gear.

We can’t be contented with yesterday’s glory

We can’t live on promises winter to spring

Today is our moment and now is our glory.

We’ll laugh and we’ll fight and we’ll sing.

And here is what we will sing! The second song is especially for the Bevo Bunch since it mentions THE University.

WHOOP!

Thursday, July 12, 2018 – Texas A&M Cancels Entire Fall Semester

Thursday, July 12, 2018 – Texas A&M Cancels Entire Fall Semester – Good Bull

This is a headline today from the Department of fake news.

Texas A&M cancels entire fall semester to accommodate Thursday night football game in August.

Here’s what I’m thinking. This from Good Bull is every undergraduates’ dream come true. I think it is an excellent idea, Jimbo. I don’t think any SEC school actually has classes during football season, do they? Maybe Vanderbilt.

Monday, July 2, 2018 – Is It Time for College Football Yet?

Monday, July 2, 2018 – Is It Time for College Football Yet?

Good Grief, Charlie Brown! It is already July 2. I think missed the final days of June.

What have we missed? Arkansas Hogs got roasted in the College World Series by Oregon State Beavers. What a way to lose it too! One out away from winning the CWS and you miss the foul ball. That memory is going to take a long time to go away.

Nevertheless, the end of the CWS just means one yard closer to college football season. I can’t wait.

Did you see where former LSU Coach Les Miles’ son is transferring from Nebraska to Texas A&M? He will be eligible next season. He is a fullback. A FULLBACK at Texas A&M?

I have not yet purchased the Texas bible of football – Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. I shall have it by tomorrow. I understand that Texas A&M Head Football Coach, Jimbo Fisher, is on the cover. Flashback: Last year THE University of Texas HC, Tom Herman, on the cover was no advantage.

The story in Texas Football supposedly says when Jimbo saw the previous head coach’s office at Texas A&M he said something like “Good God! It looks like a damn night club in here. I’m not moving in until remodeled.” I hope there are Before and After pictures.

I must stop and go to store to get ready for the Fourth of July. I’ll buy hot dogs, but no buns! The “no buns” story is one to be told with alcohol and hot dogs. And buns.

However, before I stop and go shop, I would like to make this public. On Friday June 20, 2018, I received $20, cash on the barrel head, from one Mr. J. Hawkins. I believe this is Alabama within the spread over Texas A&M. Is that correct?

I would like see Mr. Hawkins’ $20 and raise him a bottle of wine on Texas A&M within the spread and raise our Emergency Room Deductible.

Friday, May 25, 2018 – Friday Musings

I am so glad I took that CPR and stop the bleeding class. (See yesterday) Unfortunately, one cannot administer self CPR. I needed to do so last evening with the Texas Aggies baseball team and the Houston Rockets. Both games were thrillers, but the Ags and Rockets pulled out victories. The Rockets’ victory may have been a pyrrhic one. Chris Paul grabbing his hamstring was not good.

Also, in the unfortunate world of sports, I was not able to stop the bleeding the Texas Aggie softball game against Florida.

The Aggies led 4-2 going into the Florida bottom of the ninth and WALK IN the winning run. I would rather lose by the run rule. Oh well, new day, new opportunity.

There may not be much SEC baseball or Super Regional Softball in the Alabama or Florida this weekend. There is a 90% chance a tropical storm this weekend.

In other news you don’t care about, I bought a new bed and mattress. It has an adjustable base. That means one can raise the head and/or the feet. Doesn’t adjustable base sound better than “oh, like a hospital bed” as my family described it.

It also features head/neck, lumbar and leg massage – not like that cheap motel massaging bed that used to cost a quarter. The bed comes with a remote control and is wireless. I love it and it truly has made a difference in a restful sleep. However, here is an issue.

The other night I am blissfully asleep when Peach the cat jumps into the bed and hits the remote. The bed starts vibrating and I don’t know if Texas is having a fracking earthquake or I am about to be swallowed into a sink hole. I wake and of course cannot find the damn remote. Meanwhile the cat is asleep at the end of the bed enjoying a massage.

Of course, it is Memorial Day weekend. Please remember the sacrifice of those who served and especially those who gave the greatest sacrifice.

BTHO FLORIDA! And BTHO TBD. However, I am afraid there may be a Tiger waiting. A Tiger with purple and gold stripes.

Wednesday, March 07, 2018 – How Cool and How Come?

Wednesday, March 07, 2018 – How Cool and How Come?

I found some family ephemera (fancy talk for old family stuff like pictures of people you do know know). I am sure, much to the delight of my family, I donated it to LSU. My name will officially be in a museum. Thank you LSU Alum, Kathy for the help.

Remember LSU is a land grant school and when the Morrill Act was passed all land grant schools were required to have a military component. Google the Morrill Act if you did not attend a land grant school. Today of course, there is only one land grant school with a Corps of Cadets of any value. Of course that is the Harvard on the Brazos – aka Texas A&M University. Therefore, it is only right and honorable that this Texas Aggie makes a donation. How cool is that?

The photographs were of cadets of LSU and some old buildings the LSU history people recognized immediately. The dates on the back were 1905 from the Old War Skule. This date is two years before my father was born and my aunt was only three years old. I have no idea who the cadets are or where the photographs came from.

When downloading my museum donation form I ran across this from the LSU Old War Skule site posted February 26, this year. http://olewarskule.lsu.edu/?p=3302

Chairs of Honor. POW/MIA permanent seats were installed in Tiger Stadium, Maravich Assembly Center, and Alex Box Stadium and are guarded by ROTC members during home games.

Here’s what I’m thinking. How come there are no POW/MIA seats in every college stadium/arena and sports venue? And especially how come there are not any in Kyle Field and Reed Arena? And Blue Bell Park and the softball ball and soccer stadium?

What do you think about the idea? Share it Aggies!

Tuesday, January 2, 2018 – Happy New Year and How Bout them Bowl Games?

Tuesday, January 2, 2018 – Happy New Year and How Bout them Bowl Games?

Welcome 2018! I hope your team won yesterday and in previous bowl games too. For many teams, like the Aggies and LSU time ran out. Thank you to Mississippi State, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. The rest of the SEC – Missouri, Kentucky, and Auburn sucked.  Nevertheless, this year the National Championship Football trophy will reside in the SEC.

I can hear the screams and whines now. I feel certain the other football conferences are letting the committee know of their unhappiness with one conference represented. You know Coach Meyers and The Ohio State Buckeyes are not happy. The Pac 12 is squealing.  Maybe they Pac 12 is just upset being 1-7 in bowl games.  The Big 12 is still stunned from the Rose Bowl, but will soon complain and realize THE University of Texas could very well be back to Longhorn form in 2018.

It is what it is. Next Monday we get to watch the game for the Championship and the opportunity to take the crystal football to Wal-Marts throughout Georgia or Alabama. It is going to be fun to watch.

Here’s hoping the 2019 championship will also feature an SEC school too. Oh Great Football Swami and Predictor of Greatness, please let it be the Texas Aggies!

Meanwhile,

ROLL TIDE.

Monday, December 04, 2017 – The Game of Bowls and The Coaching Game of Thrones

Monday, December 04, 2017 – The Game of Bowls and The Coaching Game of Thrones

I see this morning that the ESPN site has a guide to the upcoming college bowl games. Here’s what I’m thinking – Here is my guide to the upcoming college football bowl games.

From ESPN “For the first time since 2014 there were more bowl-eligible football teams than spots to compete this year.”

Me: That is because the bowl standards are too low; there are too many unqualified teams, there are too many bowl games, but it makes money for all involved.

You may divide your bowl games as you wish. I have divided my bowl games into the following categories:

  • The No Count Bowls,
  • The Never Heard of Before Bowls,
  • The No One Cares unless you or your child and money go there Bowls,
  • The Advertising and T-shirt Sales Bowls,
  • The SEC Bowl,
  • The Last Aggie Bowl Game before the Jimbo Era and of course
  • The Big Playoff Bowls.

This listing is incomplete, but I will update as we approach the days.

Noon on ABC on Dec. 16 – The Celebration Bowl – North Carolina A&T vs Grambling. I hope they show halftime and the Grambling Band. That is always something to celebrate.

1:00 on ESPN – The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl with Troy and North Texas. What is this? R+L = X? The Algebra Bowl? Still it is in NOLA, so who cares?

The AutoNation Cure Bowl – Western Kentucky vs Georgia State at 2:30 CBSSN. From Orlando. Oh my, the Cure of the Nation is left up to these two teams and these states?

The Las Vegas Bowl – No. 25 Boise State vs. Oregon 3:30 on ABC. Thank goodness it is not on that seizure causing Boise State blue football field. I would bet $50 those Oregon yellow highlighters against the field would make me throw up.

The GILDAN New Mexico Bowl –Marshall versus Colorado State 4:30 ESPN. Never heard GILDON?

Raycom Media Camellia Bowl – Middle Tennessee vs Arkansas State ESPN. Might be fun.

The Goodyear Cotton Bowl has No. 8 USC vs No. 5 THE Ohio State. I call this one The Consolation Bowl Game or The Get Over It Ohio State and play better schedules Bowl.

The Play Station Fiesta Bowl has No. 11 Washington vs No. 9 Penn State on Dec 30 at 4:00 on ESPN. Why don’t you just do this one on a Play Station and we can all play? We can call it The Play Station Fan Interactive Bowl.

The Chick-fil-A-Peach Bowl with No. 12 UCF vs No. 7 Auburn. My cat, Peach, insists on watching this one, but she knows better than to purr for Auburn.

The Capitol One Orange Bowl – No.10 Miami vs No. 6 Wisconsin. What’s in Your Wallet? On Wisconsin!

TaxSlayer Bowl: Louisville 23 vs Mississippi State on Dec 30 on ESPN at noon. These two teams and states are now in charge of the new tax bill?

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl has Iowa State vs 20 Memphis Dec 30 at 12:30 on ABC. Yuk.

The Outback Bowl has Michigan vs South Carolina. I would rather go eat at Outback than watch.

The Citrus Bowl finds No. 17 LSU vs No. 14 Notre Dame on New Year’s Day on ABC. One of my most favs and one of my least favs. Bless me Father for I have sinned, but LSU is going to win.

The Camping World Bowl has No. 22 Virginia Tech vs No. 19 Oklahoma State. Does one have to camp out? If the Mountaineers win, will they burn the couches at their campsites?

The Valero Alamo Bowl in beautiful San Antonio has Stanford vs TCU at 9:00 ESPN. A fun city to have a bowl game regardless of who plays. This should be called The Tree Frog Bowl. Think about it!

The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl has No. 18 Washington State vs Michigan State. Go Leach!

The Walk-On’s Independence Bowl on Dec 27 has Florida State vs Southern Mississippi. The WALK ON BOWL? Can I play?

The Arizona Bowl New Mexico State Utah State on Dec 29. Oh boy! The Utes!

The Texas Bowl – THE University of Texas and Missouri. Really? You know the Aggies (and most any other team) would have brought a bigger crowd to Houston!

Again from ESPN: On Dec 29 “the former FSU Coach, Jimbo Fisher, will lead his new team, Texas A&M against Wake Forest in the Belk bowl.”

  1. What the Hell is the Belk Bowl?
  2. WAKE FOREST?
  3. Jimbo’s coaching???
  4. He does look good in a maroon blazer!
  5. Why did he come to the SEC? Watch out, Saban. The Aggies are coming and We Are Fearless!

Will those be the years of Championships????

I know I have left out some teams and bowl games, but the ESPN app crashed so I’m done for today except for the big Bowls.

5:00 on ESPN – The Rose Bowl – No. 3 Georgia and No.2 Oklahoma. I love a parade. Going to The Rose Bowl Parade is on my bucket list. As much as it pains me: Boomer Sooners!

8:45 on ESPN – The Sugar Bowl – No.4 Alabama v # 1 Clemson. These two and their fans in Nawlins!!! How fun is this? ROLL TIDE.

Monday, November 20, 2017 – Monday After College Football Awards Show

Monday, November 20, 2017 – Monday After College Football Awards Show

I must admit I did not watch a great deal of college football this weekend. But I did click around on some TV channels and tablet screens and of course have some comments. So Here’s what I’m Thinking.

Let’s start with the West Coast.

The Blue Field of Nightmares Award goes to Boise State. The uniforms were the same color as the blue football field. This is just wrong and should be banned by the NCAA because of possible seizure causings.

The Really Smart and Strange People Award goes to Cal and Stanford with the Cardinal (remember it’s a color, not a bird) winning 14 to 17. Is the Stanford Band still on probation?

The Last Minute Kick Award goes to the Washington Huskies defeating Utah 30 -33 as time expires. I like Utah because I like to use the quote from My Cousin Vinny regarding “the two yutes” or this case “the Utes.”

Moving to the Heartland we find…

The Pistol Pete Pooped Out Award goes to Oklahoma State for losing to Kansas State 40-45.

Our Anatomical Suggestive Bad Sportsmanship Award goes to quarterback Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma for suggesting that Kansas players perform an action unsuited for observation by the public.

Mayfield also receives the Do You Talk to Your Mother Like That? Award. I counted at least eight beeps. It probably will not hurt your Heisman chances, Baker, but you do not see Johnny Manziel or Jameis Winston in the Heisman Commercials. Stupid Heisman winners do not make the videos.

Moving South we find…

The Cakewalk Awards going to The Tide for demolishing Mercer 56-0 and to Auburn for similar scoring against UL Monroe 42-13 UL Monroe. At least we know where UL Monroe is located. Where the Hell is Mercer? Get ready for The Iron Bowl next Saturday. ROLL TIDE!

In anticipation of Thanksgiving game the LSU Tigers warmed up by beating Tennessee. That was some ugly colors on the TV. Faded is just a not a good color on anybody.

Big Solid’s Alma Mater, Mississippi State handled Arkansas quite well, but then again, who doesn’t?

The only game I actually watched was The Fighting Aggies and their Defense defeat Ole Miss. A Big Solid Award goes to the Aggie defense. A True Big Solid Award goes to the Aggies Derrick Tucker for intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown. WHOOP!

And now a song for Thanksgiving…

Over the river and the through the swamp to Baton Rouge we go; The Ags know the way; we just have to play; to get a win today! Hey!

Over the river and through bayous to Death Valley Stadium we go; We’ve been there before, but this time is different; This time we win on the road, Hey!

Over the river and down Highway 10; the Aggie bus rolls true; For tis Thanksgiving Day and we just had to say Beat the Hell Out of LSU!
