Thursday, April 13, 2017 – Easter Photos from Long Ago.

Photo number – 1 – Isn’t my sister a cutie pie?

Photo number – 2 – Me! Let’s sit the baby on the hot metal car with the weird looking roof and wind shield and tube thing on the side. Be prepared to catch her if she falls.

Photo number – 3 – Taking rides on the giant Easter Bunny in Texas is something I have repressed. Here I am about to take off for a ride on the giant Easter bunny with a saddle. Very cute for a one two year old.

Photo number – 4 – Here is by sister Dale about to take off on her Easter bunny ride. Hysterical when you are fourteen and your sister posts it on her blog.

Once again. Why is my father standing next to the teenager when the closest person to the baby is my grandfather standing five feet away?

Have a save and blessed Easter.

Wednesday, April 12, 2017 – Finally Something Fun to WHOOP About.

Wednesday, April 12, 2017 – Finally Something Fun to WHOOP About.

HOWDY! The world news is about who is going to bomb whom and the WH Press Secretary continues to Splice history into a continued endless number of “What I meant was…” statements.  I decided to just skip on over to September and Texas Aggie football. I hope we are all still here to watch.

September 3 – @ UCLA – Bears will want revenge.

September 9 – Nicholls State – Do not be afraid of Kyle Field and The 12th Man. Although the crowd size is probably bigger than Thibodaux.

September 16 – LA-Lafayette – Remember Texas alcohol laws.

September 23 – Arkansas @ AT&T Stadium – The Hogs are always scary. But recruiting at Jerry World is fabulous.

September 30 – South Carolina – Uncle Will Muschamp might have found a home.

October 7 – Alabama – Jalen playing in his home state.

October 14 – @ Florida – Never yell for a team from Florida. Bad colors. Bad mascot.

October 28 – Mississippi State – May the team wearing maroon and white win!

November 4 – Auburn – A lovely autumn hair color.

November 11 – New Mexico -Tune up for Toddy and the Rebels.

November 18 – @ Ole Miss- Hotty Toddy, God Awmighty! Would so love to tailgate in The Grove and have my picture made with the William Faulkner statue on campus.

November 25 – @ LSU. So much more fun than tu and the burn orange on Thanksgiving. And much better food.

Texas Aggie Football – 135 more days! WHOOP!

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 – 11:01 PM – Barely, But Still Tuesday

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 – 11:01 PM – Barely, But Still Tuesday

I did not post a Here’s What I’m Thinking today. I started one, but was having difficulty finding something pleasant to write about. Even the weather was storming. So I took a nap.

When I woke up I tried again to post something. That was when I saw that WH Press Secretary Sean Spicer said “…Even Hitler did not use gas.” Sean, wherever you received your credentials and especially those in histories, please see if you or your parents can get their money back. Obviously, it was a waste of money because you are not displaying any learning that took place during that time or at any other part of your learning curve including today.

I took another nap.

While I am waiting for the pink moon, I decided to use the few remaining minutes and post something for Tuesday. I hope the pink moon is better.

Monday, April 10, 2017 – National Siblings Day!

Photo number one is my sibling with the sibling she got for her birthday in 1949. Photo number two is the siblings on the old one’s birthday in 2017. She refused to let me sit in her lap.  So glad she does not have internet at the moment.   Love you, Sibling.

Thursday, April 6, 2017 – Over There! The Yanks Are Coming. 100 Years Ago Today

Thursday, April 6, 2017 – Over There! The Yanks Are Coming. 100 Years Ago Today

Over there, over there, Send the word, send the word over there – That the Yanks are coming, The Yanks are coming, The drums rum-tumming Ev’rywhere. So prepare, say a pray’r, Send the word, send the word to beware. We’ll be over, we’re coming over, And we won’t come back till it’s over Over there.

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the United States entry into World War I. Who wrote the most famous United States propaganda song upon the entry into the war in Europe?

At the time, 1917, the fighting was called The Great War. Sometimes it was called The War to End all Wars. Obviously the ending of end of all wars name did not work out.

By the time the United States entered the war, Europe had endured three years of trench war fare. This combination of antiquated Napoleonic military tactics (long parallel lines with soldiers now in trenches) was met with the new mechanized war fare of the machine gun, airplanes, poisonous gas and bombs. The combination left hundreds of thousands on both sides dead in places named The Somme. Verdun, Ypres and all across Europe.

It was the war that destroyed the monarchies of Europe. Governments did away with the kings or reduced the powers of them. It was the war that left the French country side littered with trench cities filled with decaying remains of men and animals.

It was the war that made the United States a global power. It was the war that created waves of nationalism and all of the other “isms” (imperialism, socialism, communism, isolationism, and ethnocentrism) that would eventually take the world to September 1, 1939. “Good job, well-done Neville Chamberlain for bringing us “Peace in our time.” On that date in history, The Great War was renamed World War I as nations aligned to fight World War II.

Upon the eve of Britain’s entry in to WWI on August 3, 1914, the British Foreign Secretary Edward Grey is quoted to have said, “The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our life-time.”

How prophetic. I wonder if it is still true today and includes my life-time.

Tuesday, April 4, 2017 – Cat Karma. Tagged You’re Found!

Tuesday, April 4, 2017 – Cat Karma. Tagged You’re Found!

Cat karma is what I get for posting a poem written by a cat yesterday. I suspect some sort of cat curse was placed on me by my high school friend, Jenny Lee yesterday. It was probably her clowder of cats that placed the curse, but here is the story.

I live in a community where most of the residents have dogs – those short legged, yappy lap dogs. I have never seen a cat in the neighborhood the entire three years I have lived here. Furthermore, I seldom go outside in the front yard in the evening because the neighbors are walking their yappy lap dogs. Or in some cases pushing the dog in a baby carriage.

Yesterday I stepped into the front only to see a cat opposite me sitting on the sidewalk. As I approached the feline she initially ran into the gutter, but immediately came to me. FYI – I was not aware of the gender until later.

Of course it almost 30 minutes before tip-off of the NCAA men’s championship game and I have a squirming cat in my arms and no one claiming her. The cat and I go to my home. I am not missing the game. Obviously, cat is comfortable.

Pets seem to know that even though they are wearing tags with data base and microchip phone numbers and data base and microchip info all of those places are closed at 6:30 in the evening.

A quick trip to the convenience store and I’m back with input and output supplies for the cat. After cat participated in input and output activities, and after a little cat soccer with plastic golf balls, cat is in my lap for the evening.

What luck! Cat is a Tar Heels Fan too!

After a fabulous basketball game – both teams should be very proud – cat beats me to bedroom and takes up middle of bed. I think – you are not Reveille and I am not sleeping on the floor. MOVE!

But alas – an 8:00 am phone call to vet clinic listed on the tag this morning revealed that Tommy belonged to my neighbor Faye – four townhomes away. By 8:15 am Tommy was home with Pet Parent. Poor Faye – said she’d been up three or four times during the night looking for her.

Please ensure your pets are tagged and chipped. I am still pretty sure Jenny Lee had something to do with this cat showing up. Maybe it is Miss. Navasota.

Monday, April, 3, 2017 – Happy Birthday, Doris Day! A Cat Poem to Celebrate It.

Happy Birthday Doris Day! Thank you for all of the wonderful movies and for your advocacy for animals.

To celebrate here is a poem from my 2017 Wall Calendar by Fransesco Marciuliano called I Could Pee on This and Other Poems by Cats. Here is the poem for the month of April.

Paw on the Nose

When we’re alone

When I’m on your lap

When you’re telling me about your day

My paw on your nose once means

“I hear what you’re saying.”

My paw on your nose twice means

“I see what you mean.”

My paw on your nose three times means

“I hope this is the off switch.”

Thursday, March 30, 2017 – There Will Be a Delay

Thursday, March 30, 2017 – There Will Be a Delay

There will be a delay in the posting Here’s What I’m Thinking, until I have returned from a luncheon. Then I will post Here’s What I’m Eating. Stay tuned.

Items I am thankful for today:

  • I do not have Sean Spicer’s job.
  • I do not work in Assessment at TEA.
  • I do not work at all.

Wednesday, March 29, 2017 – It Was a Dark and Stormy Night. Thunderbolt and Lightening; Very, Very Frightening. What is the meaning of Bismillah in a Version of Bohemian Rhapsody?

Just to clarify – I was referring to the overnight weather in the Brazos Valley of Texas and not the seemingly daily happenings at the White House.

Since the rains prohibited golf today, I decided to pretend I was a front row media professional at the WH Briefing Room when Sean Spicer (SS) gives the daily briefing. Listen in to my imagination.

Me: It is true that the POTUS is not going to throw out the first pitch on opening day of baseball season? Baseball – America’s National Pastime. Why is that?

SS: The President was indeed asked to throw out the first baseball… He is currently, no, stop, I am not finished talking…I answered your question. You, Lady, stop shaking your head; no one from the Trump administration has verified the nepharious rumors that the President is not going to toss the first putt, I mean pitch, at a baseball game. His schedule may prevent him from opening day, but I am 100% certain at some point he will throw out the first pitch.

Me: Is it true that the POTUS only has a 36% chance of getting the ball across the plate? There is a greater percentage he will likely come up short and not be able to deliver the ball across home plate…

SS: Listen, I am not going to discuss the president’s balls or his capabilities. No more questions. Good day.

Me: HWIT. Thunderbolt and Lightening; Very, Very Frightening. How about a little Bohemian Rhapsody to start the day. Perhaps I will send to Sean Spicer to brighten his mood.

I see a little silhouetto of a man Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright’ning me (Galileo) Galileo, (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo figaro magnifico…

He’s just a poor boy from a poor family Spare him his life from this monstrosity Easy come, easy go, will you let me go? Bismillah! No, we will not let you go (Let him go) Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let him go) Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let me go) Will not let you go (Let me go) Will not let you go (Let me go) Ah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no (Oh mamma mia, mamma mia) Mama mia, let me go Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me

What is the meaning of Bismillah in Bohemian Rhapsody?

(It means “In the name of God”; the full formula is bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm, “In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.”) It is said that the bismillah in “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a nod to Freddie Mercury’s upbringing in majority-Muslim Zanzibar.
