Wednesday, March 29, 2017 – It Was a Dark and Stormy Night. Thunderbolt and Lightening; Very, Very Frightening. What is the meaning of Bismillah in a Version of Bohemian Rhapsody?

Just to clarify – I was referring to the overnight weather in the Brazos Valley of Texas and not the seemingly daily happenings at the White House.

Since the rains prohibited golf today, I decided to pretend I was a front row media professional at the WH Briefing Room when Sean Spicer (SS) gives the daily briefing. Listen in to my imagination.

Me: It is true that the POTUS is not going to throw out the first pitch on opening day of baseball season? Baseball – America’s National Pastime. Why is that?

SS: The President was indeed asked to throw out the first baseball… He is currently, no, stop, I am not finished talking…I answered your question. You, Lady, stop shaking your head; no one from the Trump administration has verified the nepharious rumors that the President is not going to toss the first putt, I mean pitch, at a baseball game. His schedule may prevent him from opening day, but I am 100% certain at some point he will throw out the first pitch.

Me: Is it true that the POTUS only has a 36% chance of getting the ball across the plate? There is a greater percentage he will likely come up short and not be able to deliver the ball across home plate…

SS: Listen, I am not going to discuss the president’s balls or his capabilities. No more questions. Good day.

Me: HWIT. Thunderbolt and Lightening; Very, Very Frightening. How about a little Bohemian Rhapsody to start the day. Perhaps I will send to Sean Spicer to brighten his mood.

I see a little silhouetto of a man Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright’ning me (Galileo) Galileo, (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo figaro magnifico…

He’s just a poor boy from a poor family Spare him his life from this monstrosity Easy come, easy go, will you let me go? Bismillah! No, we will not let you go (Let him go) Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let him go) Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let me go) Will not let you go (Let me go) Will not let you go (Let me go) Ah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no (Oh mamma mia, mamma mia) Mama mia, let me go Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me

What is the meaning of Bismillah in Bohemian Rhapsody?

(It means “In the name of God”; the full formula is bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm, “In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.”) It is said that the bismillah in “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a nod to Freddie Mercury’s upbringing in majority-Muslim Zanzibar.

Wednesday, July 20, 2016 – Pressure! Under Pressure!

I have grave concerns regarding the Trump campaign staff. Based on what I have noticed thus far I believe all of them could get a refund from their respective colleges and universities because minimal intelligence is being shown.

We are NOT the Champions without the proper paperwork and permissions. The Trump Campaign allegedly used Queen and Freddie Mercury’s We Are the Champions without permissions last night at the Republican Convention.

The irony of course resides in the fact that Queen was led by the great Freddie Mercury. Mercury actually wrote the song. He is an antithesis of the political platform of the Republicans – even that fact that Mercury is from Persian descent. FYI to the geographically and historically challenged – today Persia is known as IRAN.

So Republicans you played a background anthem by a lead singer who was Iranian born to Muslim parents who was a homosexual and who died of AIDS.  Not to mention Queen is from England.

If you are going to use their songs without permission here are a couple songs from Queen I thing would be more appropriate for use at the convention that address how the rest of us feel. Don’t forget to ask for permission.

“Under Pressure”

Pressure pushing down on me Pressing down on you, no man ask for Under pressure that burns a building down Splits a family in two Puts people on streets It’s the terror of knowing What this world is about Watching some good friends Screaming, “Let me out!” Tomorrow gets me higher Pressure on people – people on streets

And of course… Bohemian Rhapsody. Let’s get those heads bobbing up and down.

I see a little silhouetto of a man, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango? Thunderbolt and lightning, Very, very frightening me. (Galileo) Galileo. (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro Magnifico.

Freddie, Queen, Adam and US World Cup Win

June 17, 2014

Freddie, Queen and Adam and a US World Cup Win

I love Freddie Mercury. He was one of the greatest on stage performers with one of the greatest voices of my time. In addition, he was one of the great musical artists of all the time. He fronted Queen, the British rock group in the 1980’s. In their prime, Queen were not only one of the greatest and most dramatic rock acts, but also one of the most cumulatively intelligent and creative. Guitarist Brian May studied astrophysics at Ealing College in London; bassist John Deacon was an electrical engineer who built some of the band’s equipment, including the Deacy Amp; and drummer Roger Taylor was preparing for a career in dentistry. Queen would be the first group to make a rock video.Queen somewhat lost its popularity in the United States in the late 1980s, but would gone on to play to massive crowds at Wembley and other outdoor venues in Europe. Mercury died in 1991 due to complications from AIDs; May would earn his PhD in astrophysics and become a university administrator and Queen would be lost to the Oldies Channels. Until now. Adam Lambert will front Queen on a new tour.

The music from Queen, with much written by Mercury and May, is the most played in TV commercials and movie themes of any rock group. “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” are two of the most recognizable songs of sporting events throughout the world. “We Will Rock You” didn’t originally start with interactive stomp-stomp-clap electronic percussion. Brian May used his knowledge of astrophysics to create the sound after Queen played an explosive show at Bingley Hall near Birmingham, England. He wanted to approximate the sound of thousands clapping at once, so he employed what he learned in school about how sound waves travel over finite distances, basing it all on prime numbers, and came up with one of the most instantly familiar song openings in rock ‘n’ roll. How’s that for interdisciplinary learning?

So today – Here’s to Freddie, Queen, Adam Lambert and the US World Cup soccer team for beating Ghana. We will rock you!
