Wednesday, March 14, 2018 – Pi Day and RIP Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking January 8, 1942 – March 14, 2018
Today is 3.14 – pi day. It honors the symbol used in mathematics to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
With no coincidence pi day marks the birth of Albert Einstein and the 300th anniversary of Galileo’s death and the death of one of the world’s greatest minds.
From his native England the Prime Minister said of him:
Professor Stephen Hawking was a brilliant and extraordinary mind – one of the great scientists of his generation. His courage, humour and determination to get the most from life was an inspiration his legacy will not be forgotten.
Here are two of my favorite Stephen Hawking quotes.
We are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity. We cannot remain looking inwards at ourselves on a small and increasly polluted and overcrowded planet.
One, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Two, never give up work. Work gives you meaning purpose and life is empty without it. Three, if you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don’t throw it away. Interview with ABCs Diane Sawyer June 2010
Tonight, the stars and universe shine brighter tonight and from now on. We will continue look up at the stars. Rest peacefully among them, Dr. Hawking.
