Wednesday, December 26, 2018 – Happy Day After
Whether you are celebrating Boxing Day, Kwanzaa, St. Stephens Day, something else or just the day after Christmas Day, I hope you are enjoying it.
It was a wonderful and blessed Christmas Eve and Christmas morning at my house of celebration. I had to get this Red Flyer to help carry my new items back to Bryan.
These are a few of my favorite things; Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens … Yeah, I know you’ll be singing it all day.
Santa really nailed this year. I got two puzzles; three calendars (No, that is not too many), gift cards to Barnes & Noble, socks, slippers, a super cool flashlight, the ever popular money, and so much more.
I got a beautiful, plush gray bathrobe that is so soft I may never take it off. Bathrobes have always been somewhat of a luxury item so it has been a long time since I have owned one. I think if I add a nice pin or a lovely brooch and pair it with a lovely contrasting scarf, I can wear it as a dress. I could be overdressed at Wal-Mart though.
You cannot tell me that my sister Dale was not there. You could taste the love in the gumbo, the Natchitoches meat pies, chocolate roll and in the Nanny cake. I also know that at some point she and Santa came into the room where I was sleeping soundly in the dark and turned on my Christmas hat with the lights. Nice touch to slam the door on the way out so I woke up to flashing lights. Thought I had passed out on the dance floor again.
And if you need more proof that both she and Mama were hanging around check out this text that was shared last night.
Merry Christmas. I had to share I am using 2 of your mom’s recipes today thinking of her and you all. Love love
At least two of us (I was one) were actually eating a piece of that cake when the text came through. Over the years it has been called a Pound Cake, a Doy Cake, Honeyboy’s Birthday Cake, Honeyboy’s Christmas present and now The Nanny Cake. I guess at one time it was called a Butter Cake.
HB was there too. I know this because he always got puzzles; three calendars, gift cards, socks, a robe, slippers, a super cool flashlight, the ever popular money and so much more. Same things I got this year. And as he would say “There is lots to be thankful for.” I am.
Delia, Let me get this straight.- 6 eggs and 2 sticks of butter for the HB birthday cake! Dale was definitely a Louisiana cook! Thank you for the recipe!! ❤️
